Before my on-going career teaching music in schools (including 15 years as an Assistant Director of Music) , I studied piano and composition at the Royal College of Music, London. I have since taught the piano to over 250 children specialising in the 7-13 age range (though regularly teach to 18 and beyond). I conservatively estimate I have given over 24,000 lessons!
I strive to give a lively and fun approach while being mindful of the importance of proper technique and musical development. I also arrange bi-annual pupil concerts, and regard this opportunity of high importance.
I have had the opportunity of seeing many children grow with their music in an 'at home' scenario (boarding school) taking part in weekend duties etc. This gives me a unique insight into the way children feel about their music. I also offer the experience of my own training at a high level, and the unique and often overlooked experience of being a composer, which impacts my lessons in various ways from the get-go.
I believe the study of music teaches us a particular understanding of the self, providing a unique form of expression, discovery, communication and enrichment to our lives, and a unique and far-reaching educational experience.
I teach my private pupils at home on the Fordingbridge/Sandleheath border in a dedicated music room. More details are available on request.
