I am a passionate and energetic classical singer, instrumentalist, and actor, with a versatile career performing in opera, musical theatre, film, and working as a session instrumentalist, composer, arranger, songwriter, and educator. Originally from Vancouver, Canada, I am now based in London, UK. I play classical piano, folk violin, and a little theremin.
As an operatic coloratura soprano, I specialize in 20th century music and extended vocal techniques, and I'm passionate about performing new music. Recent performances include Thunderstorm with Tianjin Opera, a national tour of Pier 21: The Musical, and UK recital, The First Woman. Favourite past projects include performing Schoenberg's Pierrot Lunaire, and producing my solo album, Opposites Refract, available on all streaming platforms.
In addition to having my Grade 8 in RCM piano and studying classical violin, I also mentored with Canadian fiddler and composer Oliver Schroer and Appalachian fiddle specialist, Erynne Marshall, developing a unique West Coast/appalachian fiddle style, both as a player and composer. I've worked as a session instrumentalist on recordings, in music videos, and on film sets, such as with The Promised on S2E1 of Netflix's Virgin River. In 2015 built a theremin with the Vancouver Theremin Orchestra and have performed with it at festivals, in commercials, and in recordings.
After achieving diplomas in performing arts from VCC, Vancouver Academy of Music, and the Canadian College of Performing Arts, I taught in several music studios in Vancouver, Canada, as well as running my own studio and directing various musical ensembles in my community. Because of the diversity of my own musical career, I love to encourage my students to have variety in their repertoire and to explore their own creativity as much as possible. I love to help every individual reach their highest potential, and I believe everyone can learn to play or sing music when given the right tools for their own learning style, in a positive, encouraging, and appropriately challenging environment. I teach up to ABRSM Grade 5 piano, up to RCM grade 5 or Suzuki Book 5 violin, and up to college level voice. I also teach Scottish, Canadian, and American fiddle, as well as music theory. My philosophy behind teaching is to find what works for every individual student, so I also teach broadly outside set repertoire and exam specifications when requested.
