Hannah Kagawa is a Christchurch-born, New Zealand-based percussionist and composer. She is in her final year studying a Bachelor of Music at the University of Canterbury under the guidance of Grammy-nominated percussionist Dr. Justin DeHart, and holds a Trinity College London ATCL Percussion Diploma. She currently teaches drums and percussion at the Beat Music Studios in Christchurch and occasionally plays with the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra as a casual percussionist.
Hannah performs in various ensembles across New Zealand, such as the NZSO National Youth Orchestra, and performed as a soloist with the Canterbury Philharmonia in November 2025. As a composer who won the UC Lilburn Composers Competition in 2024, her works have been commissioned and performed across four countries. She is recognised globally through involvement in international music events such as the Percussive Arts Society International Convention in Indianapolis, USA, and Marimbafest in Perth, Australia. Hannah is also known for her skill in building orchestral instruments, with her focus on making music and percussion more accessible within the community.
