Additional Info:

Devin Hawthorne is a passionate educator, musician, director, student, and lover of the arts who is from and presently situated in Victoria, British Columbia. They are driven by a desire to create and collaborate on projects that result in high quality performances that engage their audiences in a meaningful way. Devin’s drive, charisma, and determination are evident in their performances and academic achievements, as is evidenced by their receiving the Philip T. Young Memorial Scholarship in Music twice in 2019 and 2021. They aspire to be a positive and novel force that brings fresh perspectives and new ideas to any creative venture that they are involved in. Devin is presently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Music Education in conjunction with a minor in Applied Ethics at the University of Victoria.
As well as being a gifted academic, Devin has also been described as a charismatic educator who leads their classes and ensembles towards excellence. Their work with theater students at the Pacific School of Innovation and Inquiry (PSII) is a recent example of this. Devin Hawthorne and ten learners aged 14-17 crafted an anthology of plays in a variety of genres that were met with delight by their audiences. The project was titled Car Plays and featured a collection of 5-minute works that took place in or around parked motor vehicles. This venture is one example of Devin’s creativity and passion in the world of educational theater; it has fostered a continuing relationship between themself and PSII as well as the greater arts community in Victoria. They look forward to their next collaboration with PSII in June of 2023.
