Dr Chris Maxim is a composer, conductor and organist. He has also published many reviews of new music, scholarly editions and CDs, plus a number of scholarly articles.
Chris composes in a variety of genres, including choral music, instrumental music (solo and ensemble) and songs. His music is performed as far afield as Australia, Canada, South Africa and the USA. It has been broadcast on BBC and American radio, recorded on several CDs, featured in music festivals, and performed in such prestigious venues as St Paul's Cathedral, Edinburgh's Usher Hall, and the Wanamaker Store in Philadelphia, USA. His popular and widely-performed organ piece 'Toccata Nuptiale' is on the diploma syllabus of the London College of Music. Chris's publishers include Banks, Fagus, The Royal School of Church Music and Stainer & Bell. His main publisher is USA-based Paraclete Press (https://paracletesheetmusic.com/composer/maxim-christopher/). Chris welcomes commissions and, among more conventional requests, composed the jingles for the BBC Music Magazine Podcasts. Some of his compositions can be heard here:
Chris is an accomplished conductor who specialises in choral direction. He currently conducts the Giltspur Singers and the St Teilo Singers. He is available as a guest conductor and to lead choral workshops.
As an organist Chris has performed as soloist and accompanist in many cathedrals and other major churches. A particular feature of his recitals is the way he engages the audience through informative (and sometimes amusing!) introductions to the pieces that he plays. He is available as a recitalist and accompanist.
