Dr Richard Mason is an accomplished and versatile artist who has worked extensively throughout Australia, Asia, Europe and the United Kingdom. His professional experience encompasses orchestral and chamber music performances; working with Australian Defence Force bands; recording for radio, television and films; and performances in major international festivals. As a conductor, Richard is equally at home working with professional orchestras and concert bands, adult and youth choirs, junior string orchestras, tertiary ensembles and community music groups.
Richard’s qualifications include; a Master’s Degree in clarinet and bass clarinet from the Victorian College of the Arts; a PhD and postdoctoral qualifications from the University of Melbourne; and study in Amsterdam with bass clarinet virtuoso Harry Sparnaay. Richard’s current research interests include 20th century concert band music, community music pedagogy and contemporary performance practice and pedagogy.
