Peter Lewy's innovative uses of the cello in both
popular and classical settings have earned him
critical acclaim in the New York Times and
Variety Magazine. He has collaborated with
numerous artists in every genre of music. Jazz
legend Jaco Pastorious called Peter "the best
improvising cellist I've ever heard," His recent
solo release "Now and Then" on Classical Jazz
Records was a recipient of an ASCAP award. It
features six of his own works for solo cello and
the first Suite for unaccompanied cello by J. S.
Bach as well as a piece for four overdubbed
cellos. His music has been characterized as
intense but accessible. He has extensive experience in the classical world as well as other genres. He is Principal Cellist
of several NYC orchestras as well as an active
teacher. Peter is a composer and improviser
versed in many styles of music, often in demand
for studio work in the New York metropolitan
area. He has given numerous solo recitals in the
New York Metropolitan area including at Bruno
Walter Hall at Lincoln Center and often appears
in chamber music programs as well.
Fees
$ 80.00 Dollars Per Hour
The hourly fee is for teaching in my studio or via Zoom or Skype. Performances are estimated on a case by case basis.
