Henning studied music at the Jazz Department of the Technikon of Pretoria where he obtained a scholarship. He has received numerous awards over the years ranging from ATKV, the Rock ‘Guild – Best concertina player (17 years old – modern adult section), Eisteddfod and Guinness Book of Records for the largest concertina ensemble.

In 2001, Henning won the Sakkie-Langarm-Boereorkes Competition on KykNet and the album that followed was awarded with a SAMA Award. Over the years he has played as a free-lance session musician for more than 70 of South Africa's well known performing artists.

Today Henning's career is concentrated on as solo artist as “Henning” or with his band “Joubert”. You will however still catch him from time to time as a session muso on stage. A true singer, songwriter & multi-instrumentalist.
