Maddy Aldis-Evans - Oboe / Oboe D'Amore / Cor Anglais / Bass Oboe / Composer

Maddy was born in Leicestershire. She studied Oboe and composition at the Birmingham Conservatoire obtaining a Postgraduate Diploma in professional studies, BA(Hons) degree, ABSM in Composition (merit) and winning the BA Course prize. She was also awarded the college prize for Orchestral Composition, and the college Sinfonia, conducted by Andrew Mogrelia, premiered her “Four pieces for orchestra”.
Maddy continued her studies at the Royal Northern College of music where she gained a post-graduate diploma in advanced performance and Composition studying Oboe with Jonathon Small (Former Principal Oboe RLPO) and composition with Dr. Anthony Gilbert. Following a performance of “Claudia”, Maddy was awarded the Rawsthorn Prize for composition.
From 2004-2013 Maddy held the position of Sub-Principal oboist and Cor Anglais player with the Anhaltische Philharmonie in Dessau, Germany and from 2000-2004 was Solo Oboist with Kammerensemble Cologne. Maddy is now Principal Oboist with Sinfonia Viva and Sub-Principal Oboe with Bath Philharmonia. She also performs as a guest with many orchestras including BBCNOW, BBC Philharmonic, Bath Philharmonia, Birmingham Royal Ballet, CBSO, Halle, Longborough Opera, Orchestra of the Swan and WNO.
Recent solo performances include the Bach Double Concerto, Heinichen’s G minor Oboe Concerto, Morricone’s “Gabriel’s Oboe” and Copland’s “The quiet City” with Sinfonia Viva and Mozart’s Oboe Concerto and Klughardt's “Konzertstück” with the Trinity Camerata.
Always active as a composer, Maddy was commissioned by the IMPULS festival for new music in Saxon-Anhalt and the Anhaltische Philharmonie premiered “War-Torn and the angel” for string orchestra, solo flute and trumpet and actor in 2012. “River” was commissioned by TrevesPunkt Reed quintet based in Trier, Germany and premiered at the OPENING 2015 festival. “Ascendant in Taurus” was premiered in November 2015 as part of the IMPULS Festival for new music. “The Enchanted Forest” was premiered at the 2019 St. Endellion Festival followed by “The Hurlers and the rumour catcher” in 2022. A new commission from Sinfonia Viva, "Woven" was premiered in Derby in November 2023.
